"Intimate Landscapes Portfolio"
Not the grand overview or vista, but rather layered descriptive values. The melding of background with foreground, the way each frame is pictorially structured, all combine to capture the moment when I felt a poignant sense of discovery. In terms of eastern philosophy, I feel these images represent an intertwined chi ( life force ). They are also an homage to American painter Elmer Schooley's work.

Sitka spruce and moss festooned big-leaf maple branches, and ferns all contribute to nutrient-rich soils on the forest floor. Within this soil grow tiny tree roots and fern gardens. The moss, ferns and leaves actually build up a type of soil on the maple's branches.
